I need to have an external reporting system use an API to pull reports from SCCM 2012.  Is this possible? If so...how?

You'll need to get into the CfgMgr SDK:

Ya,, I was already there, but never touch this before and don't know where to start.

The link above refers to the SDK, aka: Software Development Kit.  It is a reference to how to program against the SCCM system.  So yes, you will have to write the code, or get someone to do it... if that is really what you need.

What reports are you looking to pull and where will they be going?
