iPhone data plan

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but I'll give it a try and if I'm wrong please let me know.  I have an older model iPhone (model MC608LL/A) and it no longer has a tel line assigned to it.  I want to know if there is a way to use it for DATA only without getting another line.  Is there a way? thanks

You can use in on Wi-Fi and then you should not need a data plan.

If you wish to use it outside the range of Wi-Fi, then you need a cellular plan.
