Email Accounts wont open

I have a weird one for you. A client had multiple mailboxes (some pop3) aganst their mail profile. Recently they were being prompted to create a new mail profile and couldd not access the old for some reason. Upon inspection, it looks like there are now two mail clients in the control pannel. The original - Mail (32-Bit) and the new - Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) (32-bit)
To make things weirder, if i open the Mail (32-Bit), i can see the old profile in there. However if i try to open email accounts or data files, nothing happens. No errors, nothing in the event log, nothing. if i try to create a new profile here i get 'an unknown errror occurred, error code 0x80040154'
However if i open the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) (32-bit) i can create a new profile and connect that up no problems
Any idea whats going on?
