The agent autoupdate which is by default in all vse installation is mainly for getting other available updates (service packs and upgrades)and these are enabled by default on any local update task in agent.

With this autoupdate option enabled, the check will be done on backend and get the latest when available.

However, if this option is disabled, the update can still be pushed down by ePO as long as the machine is managed with agent running and Global Updating is not disabled st the ePO server end.

So all managed client endpoint will still get DAT. The Global update has to be disabled specifically to stop the push down and together with autoupdate disabled and no other local task make available, assumed there is none, then the signature will not be updated readily.
