I need a soft phone for remote users to install on their laptops.  In the past I have always used the IP Communicator, but I see that Cisco has made EOL announcement for the IP Communicator and says to use Cisco Jabber.  Well all I need is a soft phone for laptops.  I don't need instant messaging or any of that stuff that looks like comes with jabber.  I have Microsoft Lync for that.  Any Recommendations?

I am aware that they recently announced EOL for IP Communicator V7 that will reach End of Support in 2018. The recommended upgrade path is IP Communicator 8.6 according to http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/collaboration-endpoints/ip-communicator/eos-eol-notice-c51-732611.html

We use IP Communicator (only for emergencies when someone has to work from home for some unusual reason such as medical). We don't use Jabber at this time.
