Hi,

how long do you think it will take for chkdsk to complete on a 2TB raw device mapping that is attached to a cluster nodes that have only 1 vcpu each.

How long is a piece of string?

It depends on the number of files? number of nodes, streams.. how full....

what is the file system ? NTFS ?

Many many hours!

That's why we switched our file servers to NAS based system away from File Servers, with Microsoft NTFS  in 2004!

Checking with chkdsk, caused the file servers to be down and offline for too long.

Have a look at ReFS.

File system is NTFS and it has only 300 GB of free space left.

8 hours or less?

is there a way to view the progress of a chkdsk via the faillover cluster manger?

Nothing ever in the clear!

This technical paper will help you implement VMware’s VM encryption as well as implement Veeam encryption which together will achieve the nothing ever in the clear goal. If a bad guy steals VMs, backups or traffic they get nothing.

well, i had to do some maintenance on a node.  I logged onto the node and was presented with a message saying that disk errors had been identified and that the server should be shut down.

Thinking it was better to run the chkdsk and than suffer from some disk error, i failed over the role and now chkdsk is running and the role cannnot start until the check disk is done.

Running server 2012 btw

I've seen chkdsk still going at 8/16 hours, and so they were aborted!

You can cancel.

The disk will remain unchecked.
