how do I convince client to change to wordpress

By showing them the various benefits of WordPress and the plugin/theme community add-ons (none of which Google has)

the mailto in my opinion is better than a wordpress contact form because it allows attachments

Then maybe you're not the best person to convince anyone to move away from simple solutions?  Email contact forms are far superior to mailto links and can have attachments if you have the knowledge to add them.  You also can require certain types of data, have multiple recipients, and more.

But if the client is happy with what they have and you agree that a simple mailto is adequate, why move them?
