"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to manage this on-prem indeed, see for example the methods in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2417592

If you want to change the Primary SMTP address, you can do it via EO PowerShell too:

Set-DistributionGroup DG -WindowsEmailAddress changed@domain.com

This will add changed@domain.com as the Primary SMTP address, while preserving the old primary one as secondary alias.

You have to change the mail attribute, and most likely the proxyaddresses attribute as well.
