I am currently working on sending the forwarded event logs from my windows 2008 collector server to a custom event log within the same server

Is this possible? I have heard that the "Forwarded events" logs can be pushed to the "application" or "system" logs folder.

However, I want to create a new custom log under "Applications and Services logs" -> microsoft  - >

app and services log

Unfortunately this is not possible. You can only forward to windows standard event logs.

Actually, I do see there are custom logs that I can send to.

Any reason why it wouldn't be possible?
