Need help installing json on mac

Hi Experts,

I am trying to install a script, but having trouble installing the json php extension.  I am running php version 5.1.6,  i know upgraded has it built in but to run my script had to downgrade.  

How do you install json on php in mac?  i downloaded pear and followed soem steps but cannot get it to work.

I don't think you can get it to work below PHP 5.2.  Even PHP 5.3 is several years old and obsolete today; current versions are 5.4.34, 5.5.18 and 5.6.2.  The alternative question you may want to ask is "why is my code unusable with modern versions of PHP?"

Thanks Ray paseur, after looking further into it, discovered that I really shouldn't be working with code that works on much earlier versions.  Learn a lot here..and thanks for your feedback
