openstack vs onapp

Hi,

I'm trying to see what are the cloud solutions out there. I have seen openstack and onapp. I can see most of the people are using openstack.

Is onapp using openstack in the backend or it is completely diffrent ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

OnApp cannot use OpenStack in the backend.  OpenStack is open-source software.  OnApp is proprietary Infrastructure As A Service.

OpenStack doesn't have a hypervisor.  OpenStack integrates with hypervisor technologies.  There are many different brands of OpenStack (e.g., Mirantis, Oracle, etc.).  VMware will unleash a version of OpenStack in the future.

OnApp can do what OpenStack does and more.   This means that OnApp customers can purchase computing power from OnApp.
