A user has requested us to extract attached image files from a large amount of emails on outlook. Their are duplicate names (i.e. Image001) which has made either extracting manually or running a VB script through outlook fail due to the script overriding the duplicates. Is there a powershell or VB script to extract these for us from a .PST file? Any methods to remove the attachments from emails would be appreciated, thanks.

Although you can write such a script, it requires advanced skills. Moreover, you can't actually process PST files as is. And if you say "any methods" are ok, then I can recommend the free Save Attachments utility: it does exactly what you want. You can specify the required file mask(s) (for example: *.jpg;*png;*.gif), set target folder and clear "Overwrite existing files" check to force the utility to rename the duplicates. After that you can use the free Remove Attachments utility to remove the unneeded attachments. Or you can just Replace Attachments with Links (no need to separately save/remove then).

DISCLAIMER: I recommend these utilities because I'm one of the developers, so feel free to ask any further questions.
