ssrs no data source "microsoft sharepoint list"

I'm attempting to write a report with data from a SharePoint 2010 list from visual studio 2008. when I attempt to create a new datasource to the sharepoint site, I don't see "microsoft sharepoint list" in my embedded connections Type. anyone know why?
