Convert a Desktop to a ThinClient for Free

I'm interested in converting at least one desktop to a Thin Client to replace one of our HPt5135s that went down. I'd like to do this with a free OS that will run on its own.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you already have a spare desktop available to your and with Windows professional version OS.  Use that and setup LOCAL COMPUTER POLICY on the computer to lockout USB ports, or remove them, fill them with glue, remove cdrom and so on.  Setup 2 users - one being IT as full administrator and second user with minimum capabilities.

Of course you can use any free version Linux ( such as Ubunto, Debian etc. ) and install instead if you like.
