Cannot install Symantec Endpoint Protection.  Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.

I have tried to install Symantec Endpoint Protection but get the following Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.  I uninstalled Microsoft Update KB2918614 but it did not solve the problem.

good to check the error log (in SEP_INST.log) as in general such error is from the system instead of the SEP appl services, there are likely some background services interfering the installation process. do restart the system and check the program installed list to ensure the kb is removed.
