Ok I am thinking that I have to have the dot net 3.5.1 installed before adding the 4.5?<br />

I also went to look what is in the registry as far as what dot net is installed and I see this v2.0.50727 so this is version 2.0<br />

I am using the dot net set up  that is found on the MSDN website 

this is a brand new 2008 R2 SP1 from MSDN as well 

I am getting this error when I attempt to install 

trying to install DOT NET 4.5 on a brand new 2008 r2 sp1 from MSDN from a lab
