Scrape Gmail

After problems with Outlook, I am wondering if there is a way to scrape my email from Gmail?  There are 1000's of files.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The easiest way I can think of doing this is by configuring POP to download all email and downloading it all to  an email client like ThunderBird (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/). Then from there you can export this data out into various format.

OK,  I am trying Thunderbird, but don't see how I can save emails in a different format.  Can you give me a hint?

First you would set it up as a regular pop account; as if you were going to use thunderbird as your email client.

Then you would export the data into a format.

** I dont have thunderbird installed on my macbook but I've had to do this in the past on a windows pc

for the following reason:

The programmer with the vb.net app was able to get the job done.  I must say, the vb.net is really slow compared to using Outlook and VBA, but it works.

I had a custom VB.NET application built.  It works, but it is slow.  Went back to using the Outlook solution.
