VEEAM - Backup and restore mailboxes/items Exchange 2010 DAG

Hi Guys,

Just figured out Veeam can backup and restore mailboxes and single items from Exchange 2010.
We currently run an exchange 2010 DAG cluster so was wondering what the best practise is when backing up a DAG, how to set it up and and if scheduled incrementals can be setup? or are they just full backups?

I'm running backup and replication version 8 on 2012 R2 and 2008 R2.

Thanks Guys

Hi,

I haven't used Veeam backup. But the best practice for Exchange Backup would be to run Full Backup on Weekend and Incremental Backups on Weekdays. Both Full and Inc will purge log files after successful completion of Backups. In Veeam, I have read you have to enable Veeam VSS feature, then only it will purge transaction logs files.

Using a combination to Full + Incremental saves time while running backups on weekdays. Incremental backs up only delta and hence will be completing faster. While restoring, you have to restore Full + the number of incremental backups till the failure date.
