Dell SmartSettings

Hello,
I have a Dell Precision Mobile (M6700). One of the processes running is a program named SmartSettings.exe. Using Task Manager, under the processes tab it shows this program using 32,040 K of memory. This process uses more memory than any other and I have no idea what it really does or if it is even necessary.

I am trying to free up memory usage and am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this process, what it does and is it necessary to the operation of this computer.

Thanks,
Charlie

It is not nessasary for operation as it basically lets you use a bunch of preset settings:

Video mode: Keeps screen from going off and optimizes resolution
Airplane Mode

And a few other options. If memory is a big concern you should be able to uninstall it though I never noticed any performance decline on client PCs running it. If you know how to do the power settings and such yourself and don't need a set of presets then I would get rid of it.

It might do some more things than that but the is the general idea I have of it from my own expereince.
