Web Site Registration (register.com) Admin contact vs. technical contact vs. registrant

What is the difference/consequence/significance of the three fields when you register a domain?
Most times I see the same name, address and phone number for all three fields.
I'm concerned about security, privacy, and other possible vulnerabilities.

Many of my customers don't pay attention to their domain registrations so I usually put myself in as the Technical contact.  That way, when there is a problem, I get an email about it too.  I have also had clients abandon or lose the email account that they signed up with.  I will still have access and the ability to change it to one they currently use.

Security is generally not a problem anymore unless you give your username and password to someone.  Privacy is a bogus issue to me since if you are in business, most of your business including business licenses are public info.  To me, you should never look like you are hiding.  It makes people wonder what you are hiding from.
