Emc/netapp Storage

Good day and please excuse me as I am asking a newbie question. I am an Exchange person and have never really played around with storage. Now that our implementation of Exchange now sits on a SAN I am really trying to learn about SAN'S, NAS, LUNS and at least have a fair knowledge of this discipline.

I am investing into a good old device like so http://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-SuperChassis-CSE-836BA-3U-16-Bay-SAS-Server-Chassis-X7DBI-16GB-/201204169276?pt=US_Computer_Cases&hash=item2ed8b3fa3c and use this as remote storage. What I am also looking to do is install server 2012 as a bare metal and was wondering if I can install the CLI to maybe netapp or EMC or use some sort of simulator. I was looking for guidance to see if this is even remotely possible. Thanks for your time in reading this and hopefully someone can help. I would also like to see if I could connect this or a device to vmware hosts I have.

Thanks Andrew what about a CLI version?
There are no CLI version, the simulators are Virtual Appliances.
