After a Windows update reboot I do not have DNS capabilities.

The DNS server was unable to open Active Directory.  This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it.  Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the error code.

I am assuming this is the primary domain controller and the only DNS server?  If so, it sounds like the server has lost its secure channel with itself.  To reset the secure channel, follow these steps:

1)   Stop your Kerberos Key Distribution Center service
2)   Open a command prompt with elevated rights
3)   Type "netdom resetpwd /server:<server_ip_address> /userd:<domain\domain_admin> /passwordd:*"
4)   Enter the domain admin password for the admin you specified in the previous step
5)   Reboot the server

DNS *should* now be able to load the zones.
