Share the folder on your Win8 machine same as you would normally (Right click, Share with)

On the Mac, in finder go to Go -> Connect to Server

Enter smb://win8machinenmame/sharename in the box at the top

You will need to enter user credentials for an account on the Win8 machine that has access to the shared folder

So  nothing to install neither on the PC side nor on the MAC side
It seems very easy to do
can you confirm?
Thanks

That's correct - no need for any 3rd party software
