Hi,

I have a quick question regarding hacmp cluster sysetm on AIX.  We have installed VCS on AIX and it does varyoff the VG on node1 and varyon the VG on node2 and mount the file system, when we do fail over.  How does it work on HACMP ?
Does  it export the VG and import into node2 or use the same method as VCS ?

Hi,

I think you're talking about PowerHA which is the new name of (former) HACMP since version 6.something?

Anyway, PowerHA uses the export/import method only when there is a difference between VG timestamps which means that the VG information held on the participating nodes is not consistent.

If consistenty is guaranteed PowerHA will just varyon the VG on the failover target, having made sure beforehand that the source node is either dead or has successfully varied off the VG.
This is verfied by means of several heartbeat communication paths (with PowerHA 7 in fact using all available interfaces automatically) , be it via network, asynchronous line, legacy disk heartbeat or the new  common SAN heartbeat feature (CAA repository disk on PowerHA 7, not on HACMP!)

VG information can/will become inconstent when VGs are not concurrent-capable and changes were made to VG or LV metadata without having taken further action like "importvg -L" ("learn").

Please note that "importvg -L" will synchronize VG information on nodes, but will not update the timestamp recorded by HACMP/PowerHA. There is a way, however, to update this timestamp manually (see "clvgdats").
