In pure javascript I think this would do it:

<script>
function change_class(ele){
	d = ele.parentNode;
	d.className = d.className + " another_class";
}
</script>

<div class="one_class">
	<div id="element" onClick="change_class(this)">Content</div>
</div>

A jquery verion:
