Hello,

I have a web site to design. They want to be able to edit it and have a photo gallery. I have used Joomla before for my clients but its been years. They really like the look, feel, and layout of STKHOUSE.com. I realize this is professional and probably maintained by a company but that is what I am trying to go by (not mimic). Are there any sites out there (free preferably but if not that's ok too). I am not looking to start from scratch and would like a template to start with. Do you have any website suggestions? Also, what does responsive mean when it comes to Joomla templates?

Thank you.

The site you referenced is a wordpress site inside of an ancient frameset based layout.

If your client is not concerned about security then Joomla or Wordpress are alright as a starting place.  It is not that the common CMS platforms are naturally insecure, but because of widespread usage they are under constant attack by hackers and it takes care and time to secure them.

As for templates there are literally tens of thousands for both, and you will need to use search terms to specific qualities you want in them.  A word of caution; templates available on the internet (both free and paid) are 90% trash that can up costing you 2 or 3 times the time taken to do it from scratch, unless you are going to use them out of the box without much customization.  The support for them on average on a scale of 1 to 10 is about 1.5.

I avoid all third party "easy to use" junk because I have learned over time that I end up with less profit; spend more time trying to fix problem in the junk; and end up with unhappy clients.

Wordpress and Joomla in the hands of Professionals with a lot of experience with them can be used to build very nice sites, but the inexperienced will spend a lot of time trying figure out how to do even very simple changes.
