How would I recover data from a tape (I have the tape drive used) using Windows 2008 backup ?

The Windows 2008 built-in backup doesn't support tape anymore. So you can't use that to restore backups. You will have to install the application that was originally used to backup to the tapes in order to be able to restore from them.
