Need to understand if any difference made with DRS mechanism in 4.x and 5.x and 5.5 ?
Which technology is used under DRS ?

How VMs are setting priority by default to migrate form one host to other or from one datastore to other ?

vMotion is the underlying technology used for VMware vSphere DRS.

I would start reading the King of DRS and HA - here

VMware vSphere 4.1 HA and DRS Technical deepdive (Volume 1)

ISBN-10: 1456301446
ISBN-13: 978-1456301446

Written by Duncan Epping and Frank Denneman, both of whom are Consulting Architects at VMware and are perceived by the industry as Subject Matter experts on VMware High Availability and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler.
This book zooms in on two key components of every VMware based infrastructure. It covers the basic steps needed to create a VMware HA and DRS cluster, and goes on to explain the concepts and mechanisms behind HA and DRS which will enable you to make well educated decisions. You will get the tools to understand and implement e.g. HA admission control policies, DRS resource pools and resource allocation settings and more.

DRS - moves VMs from host to host in a Cluster.

Storage DRS - moves VMs from datastore to datastore in a Storage Cluster.

You can change how aggressive DRS is, from manual to aggressive.

All VMs have the same priority, unless they have a anti-affinity affinity rule created.

DRS can be set to manual, partial, or fully automated, these settings can apply to ALL the VMs, or it can be individual set per VM.

Yes.

all will be moved. As for in which order, depends in the priority, but all will be moved quickly off the host, you can expect them to be moved within 2-3 minutes, Depending upon vMotion interfaces.

if there is no rule configured in drs..how drs ll take vms for migration ?

Manual, Partial, and Fully Automatic.

if you do not change anything the defaults will apply.

based on load across the servers (CPU and Memory).
