On the attached sheet I need to SUM AR34 + AT34. I then need to copy the formula down for the rest of the values in column AR?

Where are you wanting the sum?

Simple formula:

=SUM(AR34,AT34)

Copy down as required.

As I have just learnt in another question, =AR34+AT34 will not work if one or other is text but the SUM option will.

What seems to be the problem beyond the simple formula?

Thanks

You will get circular reference. You cannot include the value of a cell within a formula in the same cell.

As column AT has a formula, you can just include the value of AR in that formula; you end up with result in AT instead though.

=AR34+VLOOKUP(...)
