Syncing member server time with domain

Hi all,

Again Irevisiting this problem of time sync.

I have a 2012 domain. My PDC role holder is configured to get time externally. I was told that the rest of the member servers should go to there site DC for time source. However a number of my servers are drifting. Can someone tell me what I should be doing. Thanks

I've got trouble with W32time (the timekeeping service in Windows) whenever I used it in NTP mode.

I hope you get it working, but if your troble persists, I would recommend to try the "real thing": A windows port of the original Unix NTP service. Easy to install, small performance footprint, simple to configure and stable as a rock.

BTW: It would be possible to separate the timekeeping from the DC role, and it would be even possible to just run the DC and critical servers with NTP and let the other clients fetch from them with W32time ...

Also my entire domain is running 3 minutes slow because my PDC is wrong! yet tis configured with external NTP?

Hi,

Locate the registry key on your member server HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters

Modify the "Type" key and change it to NT5DS. This will point to the time source from your DC which is holding the PDC role.
