I want to to hook sound to an surround sound system that has a HDMI port

So I need a HDMI port on my PC, Ive heard this can be done by getting a video card that is sound compatible

Don't have a big budget .

Would like to get one from here.

No need to get a sound card or motherboard, a video card with a HDMI port will suffice.

Do you have an existing video card? What is the model of your motherboard?

Providing your machine isn't ancient, something basic like this will be able to do the job fine: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-asus-gt-610-silent-pcie-20-(x16)-40nm-1200mhz-gddr3-gpu-810mhz-48-cores-d-sub-dl-dvi-i-hdmi-lp-p

That's a great find
The sub woofers only work on hdmi on a home virtual surround. On normal analogue it's still good.
When I hook up my blue ray player via hdmi the sound is unreal. So I know how good it is.
It gets the police to my door and drives my neighbour insane(r)

Make enemies of your neighbours with HDMI

I'm like that episode of breaking bad with Jessie and the party. Actually saw it last night hence me needing sound, proper sound .

Roll on Xmas, I can see those flashing police lights outside already :-)

Did you try to download the drivers from the Nvidia site? This one should have work with XP: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/79895/en-us

You also need to change your default audio device in Control PanelSounds and Audio DevicesAudio tab to the HDMI sound port on the video card.
