Email encryption

Email experts,

At company X, their outlook makes an SSL connection to the exchange server.  Therefore email is encrypted between outlook and exchange.  Assume there is no other hardware email encryption device on the network.

When the client sends an email outside of the organization, it is forwarded to a cloud provider.  Does the cloud provider encrypt the mail before sending to the destination or is that part usuallly unencrypted?

usually not encrypted .. Email is not a secure transmission method and was never designed to be. Security in much of the internet is added much later as an afterthought as the inventors didn't envision the need for security ..heck it was 1 scientist taking to another.
