RDS 2012 remote apps not working

I have configured RDS on 2012 R2 systems, 2 x Collection host servers and 1 server for Gateway, Broker, Web Access.

Everything is working fine internally. Externally can connect to RDweb OK but when click on App it will just sit and get stuck starting. RDP session has to  be ended in Task Manager.
When connected via VPN works no issues.

I am also using the gateway with RDP to connect to management servers remotely with no issues as well, so I know the gateway works. Got me stumped

Since the functional difference between your non-working clients and working clients externally speaking is the VPN, then firewall/DNS/other things are likely the culprit. I'd start at the external firewall - what ports are allowed in to the RDS box(es)?

There issues with the encryption level. Once this was dropped to low for the Collections everything worked fine
