Exchange 2013

Dear Experts,

I am adding new mailboxes for users in our exchange server 2013 .  I went to add a users mailbox using the Existing users and the list it provides does not show some users AD account?  How do I create a mailbox for existing user if the name does not appear in the list, or how do I get his name to appear in the list. Also I can't delete the existing user . As all the users are configured with roaming profiles. I have some 20-30 domain users not showing up when creating the mail ids for them.

Please help me in resolving this issue

Regards,

This usually means they already have some sort of mail attribute on their account. If you look at then in ADUC, do they gave anything in the email address field on the general tab? If so you need to figure out why they have an address ant take the appropriate action for your situation.

Hi ,

Yes in the mail address tab email id is given.  But for all the users mail id is given . Only some users does not show up when configuring new mail ids for them.

When you attempt to add a mailbox to an account it is only showing those who do not have an email address. If they have that address then exchange excludes them as possible mailbox candidates. You need to remove the email address they have before adding a mailbox to them. Do you know why they have an  email address? Do they already have a mailbox or possibly were set up as a mailuser to satisfy another mail system?

Hi ,

They don't have any mail ids. So if i remove the mail id from the user properties it will appear in Exchange. If so i will do like that & keep you updated.

What do you mean by mail ids? And if they don't have any how are you removing them? I said if they have email addresses you need to figure out why and properly remove the email address. Email addresses don't just show up for users unless you give it to them.

Hi ,

What i meant is when we create a new user in domain sometimes in E-Mail tab default mail ids get created. This is what I meant. Even after removing this still those  users not getting listed in Exchange server.

Then they already have a mailbox and you are trying to connect them to another? First you have to disable them from their current mailbox if it is not needed. Then you can enable a new mailbox. Just removing the address is not the proper way to remove someone who has a mailbox or is a mailuser. But I cannot understand why you would be doing this in the first place if they already have a mailbox.

I have to say though, what you are telling me is very confusing and not at all how exchange 2013 works. Creating an AD user, unless you did it through exchange 2013, does not just create random email addresses.

I've requested that this question be deleted for the following reason:

Dear Experts,

In my absence one of my colleague already created the mail boxes for those users. Thats why those users were missing when i was trying to configure the new mail ids for them. Yesterday only i came to know that it was created by him previously.

Thats the reason why i want to delete this question.

I object to this closing due to the fact that this is exactly what I said the issue was in the first place. One of my comments, "When you attempt to add a mailbox to an account it is only showing those who do not have an email address. If they have that address then exchange excludes them as possible mailbox candidates. You need to remove the email address they have before adding a mailbox to them. Do you know why they have an  email address? Do they already have a mailbox or possibly were set up as a mailuser to satisfy another mail system?" indicates this exactly.

Any of my comments from this thread should be accepted as the solution as they are stating he either already has mailboxes or mailuser attributes for these problem users. I do not know why they were not accepted as the correct answer since this was found to be the case.
