mysql server stuck

Hello ,
I have the following problem on my web server running apache+php and mysqld , almost once a week I have MySQL blocked with the following message

service mysqld status
mysqld dead but subsys locked


I need to restart the server. this is what I have found in my messages.log file ....
can you help me for the troubleshooting.

to restart the mysql server, you basically need 2 steps:

delete the lock file:
rm /var/lock/subsys/mysqld

then restart the mysql server:
service mysqld restart

you may want to restart any other related services also, but the above 2 steps are about the mysql as such

you will need to troubleshoot the underlying mysql issue checking the mysql log file

check the InnoDB configuration; the error indicates it failes (not enough memory on the system )


other than that, I see nothing abnormal, just the usual startup/shutdown information

Hi,

It seems that there are two problems with your setup:
1) as Angelll pointed out earlier you need to check inno_db memory usage and for the test make sure that it is  50-60% of the actual RAM. You need to check /etc/my.cnf  the variable
innodb_buffer_pool_size

2) It seems that your HTTPD processes are taking up much memory and there are so many instances. You might need to adjust your http.conf and make sure that staring number of instances are similar to this (for beginning):

StartServers 1
MinSpareServers 1
MaxSpareServers 5
MaxClients 5
.
.
MaxRequestsPerChild 200

Try to restart. Your swap indicates it is almost full and it seems that something (probably your HTTPD daemon) is eating up all available memory.

I will request you reduce the settings to these:

Please don't forget ro restart the server after the new settings.. We'll gradually increase the settings later.

I've changed the settings based on Kerem message .
Up to now no problems , one day passed .... is it normal that the behavior I have now is the web site slower ?

well , we remain on hold till Monday than I'll increase the values .

Hi,

Than you would start to increase HTTP Server settings gradually. It seems that you need to process more requests. My suggestion would be to keep the  MaxRequestsPerChild, MaxClients,StartServers and MaxSparseServers as low as possible.

Keep in mind that the real problem with your setup was HTTPD consuming all your memory. It was only because MySQL quick to kill some child processes  when there's a memory shortage and this is why your logs indicated some child has been terminated.
