Wordpress - authors that are not set up as users

I run a website with a number of different people contributing to it. I woud like to have the author appear in each post rather than have Wordpress display the posted by stuff on the top of the post. More or less, I found the way to do this, or rather: I know what to read about and look for in order to make the proper changes.

This is not the problem. The problem is that WP, in order to set up a user as an author demand their email-address. This is not very practical, since I do not want the contributors to be authors in the WP sense of the word. And I do not want to bother them for emails. What I want is really the ability to create as list of authors along with the biographical info, and have WP to put on the relevant post. It seems like overkill to create a user profile for each one of them.

Or is there a way to manually

What you can do is use Custom Fields to hold the author information for each post and then modify single.php (or create a new template) to echo out those fields when and where you want them.

The Advanced Custom Fields plugin would be helpful in doing this.

I am not sure there is a plugin that does exactly what you are asking, though.  Most of the enhanced author display plugins that I know of do require the author be a registered WordPress user.

Get Jason, thank you. I 'have comeback across advanced Cusom Fields, and I've even found what's seems to be a decent tutorial for it.  But maybe maybe you can enligthen me even further.

As I understand it ACF can make another field or set of fields in the add post section. This can the ve echoed out in posts and pages? In my case  the fields would be "writers" and "writers info". This would certainly do the trick for me. But it would be really neat if ACF would allow me to enter a more permanent list of writers and their corresponding info into a database, and then simple choksejr them from a list (or add them to it if they were not on it). can ACF do that?
