I am looking to start using VMware persona management.

I will be synchronizing standard folders, internet explorer favorites, FireFox favorites, Office recent documents, desktops shortcuts, desktop wallpaper.

What are the drawbacks?
Is it possible to use Persona Management in a non-MS Exchange environment where PST files are networked and utilizing POP3?

I don't think there are any drawbacks in using VMware Persona Management. (maybe roaming profiles!)

You may want to evaluate, what can be done using standard Active Directory Group Policies. We personally do not like Roaming Profiles, these have always been an issue, and still get corrupted, and a better method is folder redirection to a share on a filer server.

ensure you read the following guides

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view/VMware-View-Evaluators-Guide.pdf

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view/VMware-View-Persona-Management-Deployment-Guide.pdf

You can use this in a non-MS Exchange environment, also remember that PST files on a network drive are NOT supported, and never have been by Microsoft, and PST files can also get corrupted.
