Anyone with Vista and Windows Mail?

Not Windows Live Mail but Windows Mail.

Issues started last week.

When the program is opened > start > email, the program opens and there are 3 windows as seen in screen shot #1.

The window beneath the login window is trying to check for new messages but can not because login is not complete.
In the 2nd image you see I have entered the user name and password and clicked on ok and then Windows Mai will check for new messages and that window should close and not stay open or re-open. It should check for new messages in the background and invisible. Until the next boot when login is required again. This is done so only those with a password can access the mail box. I removed the user name from the screen shot.

Then image 3 shows that the "new message window" remains open after it checks for new messages. This is not normal. That window should close.

This started only late last week.

The window can be closed by clicking on "hide" but that action is not normally needed. What has changed not sure. There have been no recent Windows updates, two Malwarebyte scans found nothing and nothing was found by Trend Micro. But some change to Windows Mail.

A new symptom just noticed today is that when a message in the delete box is deleted, there is no sound. The sound settings are correct.
This is a secondary problem, we can live with no sound upon deletion of messages in the delete box. It has stopped in the past for no reason and then clears itself up. there is supposed to be a sound alert when a message is deleted from the "deleted items" folder.

The primary issue is the window that does not close upon login.
That is not normal and has never happened before the other day.

The mail server is thru the ISP and their tech support agents do not use Windows Mail and they have not found a solution after 4 phone calls lasting over 1.5 hours combined in an effort to solve the issue. They go into properties and check the incoming and outgoing mail settings and find nothing wrong.

Do you use Windows Mail?

Windows Vista is a zone since Windows Mail is within Vista.

I'll try that.

On the sound, I left the pc on and a few hours later, now the "sound" is heard when a message is deleted from the deleted items folder,
So that feature decided on it's own to begin working as normal.
you can always do a system restore to a date it was ok nick

Nick:
To have that window auto-close look at the pin in the bottom right corner of that window.  That tack is what would pin it to stay.  Click it and see if it unpins so it should then go away.

.......That did the trick.....thanks.

It did the trick, unless it only fixed it with the current instance, and tomorrow when the program is opened again , the "pin" has reset to the other icon.
