updated to iTunes 12

I updated iTunes to 12.1 and now weird things are happening with my iPad sync.  I plug in the iPad and it shows all of the apps that are on it but when I click on "install" to add another app all my apps on the horizontal line at the bottom go away.  It is like it wants to delete all the apps and then install only this one that I have selected.  I don't want to take off all the apps just add a new one.  What's up?

Hi 12.01 is the latest version AFAIK.

Have you tried doing a full backup/sync before installing the new app?

The iTunes interface has changed quite a bit, but I've not experienced any problems?

Could you try restating this sentence
>when I click on "install" to add another app all my apps on the horizontal line at the bottom go away

as I'm not sure what you mean.

Look at the screenshots.  The one that is labeled "before" is when I plug in the iPad and open iTunes.  The screenshot that is labeled "after" is what it looks like when I try to install a new app.  It wants to delete all my apps on the iPad and only install the one  new one I selected.

I see what you mean! iTunes is not recognising all the existing content on your iPad. Beyond my experience, I'm afraid. I can only suggest downloading the new app you want to install directly from the AppStore on the iPad rather than doing it through iTunes.

That won't work.  That means I can never plug in my iPad again?  I'll have to wait for another answer.

can you downgrade to an older version of iTunes?  Would that work?

I wasn't suggesting that you couldn't plug it in (to charge). Just don't sync it with iTunes. Instead of installing the new app via iTunes, download it directly to your iPad. If you've paid for it once you can download it again.

Are all the other apps ones that you've personally purchased, or are they family-sharing?

Hi, I've now replicated the issue on a family member's iPod. I've no resolution as yet, but see from this link and this one that others are having problems.
I can confirm that I've been able to directly download new apps onto the device, but not sync it with iTunes. I'll post again if/when I get a full resolution, but suspect it may be dependent on the next release of iTunes, or involve doing a factory reset of the device followed by restore from backup, or a rebuild of the iTunes library.

I continue to have this issue too, even though there has been another update to iTunes released since you last posted.

This link shows how to downgrade but it's not a 'supported' method and requires 3rd party utilities. I have not downgraded myself but continue to wait for a proper fix in a future release of iTunes.
