understanding Citrix Receiver

I have done some reading about citrix receiver and most articles say that it is a container for other citrix plugins
I checked this video below. it shows the user downloading Citrix receiver and when it is done the user can see Applications in Xenapp App Server Center. I do not see a container for the plugins.

- What I do not understand, does citrix receiver downloads all the plugins and use them in the background ?
- I have also read that   Citrix Receiver is downloaded through Merchandize server.  Merchandize server  is available on both XenServer and VMware platforms. It is Linux based.
I initially thought citrix receiver is downloaded from Xenapp server.
I thought Merchandize server is used for Licensing.

Any clarification will be very much appreciated.

if you want to central management the you can use merchandizing server. If users then its they can download it from internet and yes you can push the same through group policy.

nope it wont download all the plugins, you can download the receiver on web portal or you can push through merchandise server.  receiver will pull the updates from merchandise  server. you need to use the merchandize server to download the plugins and to push to client. for merchandize server config for receiver check http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/20833-102-665904/Citrix%20Receiver%20Deployment%20Guide%20v1%2007.pdf
