Does the mouse and keyboard work if you try putting the VM in full screen mode in Hyper-V Manager?

Please also specify what version of Windows the Hyper-V host is running. If the host is running 2008 R2 then the XP VM will need Service Pack 2 installed. If the host is running 2012 R2 then  you'll need XP Service Pack 3 installed.

I Tried full screen mode, that does not work either.

I am running an XP VM on a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.

Is it XP Pro? Also make sure you have SP2 installed at a minimum, but SP3 is recommended.

The problem is that I cannot check the SP level since I cannot controle the virtual OS. Perhaps I have the hardware OS somewhere still running, I'll look into that.

You can always look at re-installing XP from media with SP2/SP3 streamlined into it, unless this VM was converted from a physical machine?

It was converted since it contains software which I cannot reinstall, so I depend on this configuration

We kept it locally, never made a Hyper V
