Hi All,

I use Google apps for business.
I am essentially trying to find a way to redirect all my emails from Google apps to go through an external SMTP server.

There is a small catch though.

My SMTP server requires authentication. (Similar to a service like Sendgrid etc.).
The inbound email would still come in untouched.

Please see the attached image to understand the scenario better.
I didn't find a setting to specify the username and password for outbound smtp server in google apps.

If you can help me figure out a way to accomplish that, that'll be awesome.

Thanks!

When you use an outbound mail gateway, the Google Apps mail servers pass all outgoing mail from your domain to the gateway server. You configure the gateway server to accept a stream of mail from the Google Apps mail servers. Your third party server must be able to recognise the IP address of where the stream of mail is coming from! There is no username/password authentication passed.

You should also configure SPF and DKIM authentication appropriately.

Furthermore:

outbound gateway - is configured by administrator in the admin console under Gmail Advanced

outbound relay - is configured by individual users and provides username/password authentication capabilities
