Within a servlet, how can one obtain a reference to org.apache.catalina.context?

sorry, I thought I responded to this - that's not an org.apache.catalina.Context, that's a javax.servlet.Context.  That was my first guess too though...  :)

Again, that's javax.servlet.servlet context, not the one I'm looking for...

catalina context is implementation of servlet context. you should call servlet context API and never directly implementation (Think about jetty, jboss, and more expensive options)
