error on web service update error downloading http:// ....

I have a windows application that references web services.  
This application was something that worked a couple of months before - but now gives me an error on one of the web services.
I tried to update the web service reference and get the below error too.  
"There was an error downloading http:// <ip address>/service.asmx?WSDL
The request failed with the error message .....

It would appear the web service no longer exists or is not working
You would need to contact whoever the provider is

hi Gary

That's what I thought - thanks for confirming my assumptions. I cannot get anything to load even if I type the url on a web browser.
I have contacted the support  - ( they are a bit slow to respond ) but good to be prepared so asked the question here.
