WSUS error / failed upgrade

A few months ago a file server running Win2008R2SP1 was upgraded from IE9 to IE11. The upgrade failed, and IE11 was uninstalled and reverted to IE9. Since that failed attempt WSUS shows the server with the error installing IE11.
Is it any way to fix the error without upgrading to IE11?
Thank you.

Please run System File Checker:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb491008.aspx

and then install the System Readiness tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us

Can you install IE 11 now?

SFC didn't find any problem. Installed the Hotfix.
Install of IE11 upgrade failed!

Then you will have to perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Server 2008:
