Use Outlook with Gmail

We want to use Outlook with imap.

I tried to connect outlook to my gmail account using these settings per this recommendation.

incoming server imap.googlemail.com
993 SSL Encryption
outgoing server smtp.googlemail.com
586 TLS Encryption
Does not require SPA secure password authentication
outgoing server requires authentication, yes, but use the same settings as my incoming mail server

After trying to connect, I got this message from gmail http://screencast.com/t/dKfRYgCGyCj saying that I could resolve the error but only if I did not want security built into my account.

This is not a good solution. Assistance is greatly appreciated.

This did not work either. I'd be very appreciative if someone could actually do this with the most recent version of Outlook, and then post the solution.

Before I do that, I have been reading about a problem with imap that will show all my previously read mail as unread. Is this still an issue or likely to happen?
