is there a way to manually edit a DB and turn off password and store as plain text?

I need to do it to a dev DB and just get access quickly?

You need to have passwordFormat="Clear"

<membership defaultProvider="SqlProvider" >
    <providers>
      <clear />
      <add
        name="SqlProvider"
       .....
        requiresUniqueEmail="true"
        passwordFormat="Clear" />
    </providers>
  </membership>

Open in new window

But even for development i would use encrypted or hash passwords.

Actually figured it out.
I needed to set passwordformat to 1 on record in question,  and salt to - 1
That enables me to login with a clear password
