Emails failing with "write error"

Running Small Business Server behind an ASA5505.

For about the last six weeks, a client has been having problems receiving emails from some clients.  The emails get delayed and then fail permanently, but never with an Exchange error message.  The error messages say things like "technical details of temporary failure:write error" or "technical detail of permanent failure: write error"  I have seen "SMTP timeout" as well.

There are many people having this issue on the web none seem to have an answer.  My clients is getting upset and I am having no luck finding out what is wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

That is exactly what it was.  That setting has been on the the entire 5 year life of the device, it seems strange it would just now start inhibiting email flow.
Glad you got it resolved.
