what device are you talking about?
if you buy it, the specs should tell you what you want

ASKER

I am referring to any desktop/laptop/mobile device..

any standard tool/app that anyone can run to find out the max capability of their wifi.. (if it can handle upto 1 or 10 or 100 or 1000 Mbps and so forth)

if you want SIW best download it from the maker's site :  http://www.gtopala.com/      -- no malware there

and, as i said  for "desktop/laptop/mobile device"  the specs will have the info you need
if that is not what you want - tell us what you want

@ nobus
No malware in SIW downloaded from my Link:
http://siw.en.softonic.com/
I have scanned & used it myself.
Also it is a non install version of SIW that runs only one time when executed.

Also I agree that for "desktop/laptop/mobile device"  the specs will have the info you need.
But sometimes the specs can be false especially on Chinese devices.

i always try to give the original download link - it always reduces the risk of other software  intrusions

Good point for sites that confuse what is actually the correct download tab.
Routers
Routers

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. The most familiar type of routers are home and small office cable or DSL routers that simply pass data, such as web pages, email, IM, and videos between computers and the Internet. More sophisticated routers, such as enterprise routers, connect large business or ISP networks up to the powerful core routers that forward data at high speed along the optical fiber lines of the Internet backbone. Though routers are typically dedicated hardware devices, use of software-based routers has grown increasingly common.
