I have a customer with SBS 2008 and a large (about 140GB) Exchange database. Its becoming very slow and was considering an offline defrag

I then found an article on SBS 2011 about creating a new database and moving the mailboxes to it. Then you change a registry key so the wizards look at the right database for user creation etc

I can do the new database and moving on SBS 2008 but can't find a way to change the default database for wizards etc (I checked the registry on SBS 2008 and isn't a simular key)

Original info was from http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/SBS_Small_Business_Server/Q_28291180.html

Want to do job over Xmas as is the only time I can take email down

Any got some ideas?

I think as long as you rename the new mailbox database back to the default name of Mailbox Database then you'll be right. Steps to do this are as follows:

Open the Exchange Management Console
Expand Server Configuration and select Mailbox
Click on the Database Management tab
Right click on your new mailbox database and select Properties
Change the name back to Mailbox Database
Click Apply. Click OK

You will obviously want to do this after you've moved everything off the old mailbox database.
